A tactical battle game with cards! 16 different factions, each with a different theme/feel, are used in head-to-head battles. Yes, there are dice and card draws, but luck won't decide the victor.
- Summoner Wars: Master Set
My all time favourite! Carcassonne can be explained in minutes and the strategies are endless! I love allying up with friends to share points or stealing castles for your own.
- Carcassonne
Fantastic party game if your group loves raunchy humour. You'll never go back to Apples to Apples after playing this.
- Cards Against Humanity
Pretty friendly to new players but deep enough that you still want to play 200 games later. Add expansions once your group is comfortable with the base game.
- Dominion
This is without a doubt a future classic. If you're looking for a first, look no further; if you're looking for an addition to you collection; you could do much worse. You don't need any expansions.
- Carcassonne
Investments feature heavily in this game of economics. Trying to choose which hotel to invest in early is hard, but even a wrong choice doesn't doom the game!
- Acquire
A fun game where choosing the card you want to take is also based on making sure the person next to you doesn't get a good pick! Each of the cards in a round pass from player to player.
- 7 Wonders
An interesting twist on standard deck building mechanics. The roles really make this feel different from other deck builders. It's fun but a little on the complex side.
- Eminent Domain
The oldest war game I ever played... maybe a little too much on the dice throwing luck side, but of course you won't win without some planning. The more players, the more fun...
- Risk
My wife and I love playing this game when we are looking for something quick and light. This is perfect when you're waiting for people to show up for board game night or between playing longer games.
- Zombie Dice
This is basically an adult only version of Apples to Apples. The cards are rude, crude, and make people laugh. If you aren't playing with kids then this is a great party game.
- Cards Against Humanity
This is a great game to play when I'm looking for something with light strategy that doesn't take itself too seriously. The board and magic spells in the game make for really interesting interactions.
- Wiz-War
When you choose a race, you don't keep it for the entire game; even if you're winning. Races are disposable so when you've exhausted one, you choose another and come out swinging!
- Small World
Essentially Chess with teams, Summoner Wars comes with 6 unique armies. Absorbing game mechanic coupled with well balanced design and nice artwork make this a great game.
- Summoner Wars: Master Set
Great game. It is a cooperative game. The group plays against an enemy that is controlled by cards. Lots of dice are rolled. There still is a lot of strategy as well. The rules take a while to learn.
- Arkham Horror
this is a good deck building game. the game's races feel more balanced then the original. It rewards going a single race more so then the original. The trophy mechanic is a fun addition to the game.
- Ascension: Storm of Souls
This game is great to add with another different ascension game The 2 player game that you can play is ok The other Ascension games are better alone but this makes the first one's races feel complete
- Ascension: Return of the Fallen
I find this game a little more on the luck side. This is because every turn you draw a piece at random. and it decides you move great game for 2-3 people. Once you get more I recommend other games.
- Carcassonne
This is one of the best economic games ever made. It is not for people who are just getting into board games. It has almost no luck. It does take a lot of time.
- Agricola
A deck building game made from mtg pros it shows. It is a little more casual then the average game. It is luck based and even more then 2 people. Strategy always plays a part in deck building games.
- Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer
